Description:
STONEMAN MEADOW was named for Stoneman House, a three-story hotel located at the east side of the meadow near the present site of the Camp Curry Garage. Built in 1885 by the State of California, it was bulky and of poor design. It burned to the ground in 1896. It was named for George Stoneman, Governor of California at that time. On July 4, 1970, there were riots in Stoneman Meadow.
