Volcano-2,070' (Pine Grove)
(38.4429658, -120.6307628)
Description:
Volcano over today. We had a hot, dusty ride through several mining towns. Why the place is called Volcano I do not know. Bayard Taylor, in his travels, speaks of several craters near, but no one else has ever seen them—they probably exist only in the poet’s imagination.
From Upand Down California by William Brewer, Book 4, Chapter 5
