Description:
Mt Tabor is the remains of volcanic activity. This is port of the Boring Lava Field. There are three other volcanic peaks within Portland. The park's design had Olmstead's step-son as a consultant. Mt Tabor may not be a recognized park by Portland, but has all the trappings of one. During the 1920's, Mt Tabor was the site of KKK activities.

  • January 13, 2023 - Day trip to Portland where we visited Voodoo Donuts, Powell's bookstore and Mt Tabor. We then picked up Steven from the airport.
    • We drove most of the way to the top and walked the rest of the 50' to the top. Worthwhile walking the park.

Interesting that GNIS does not have the Falls as a name, but it does have Madison Creek. Also interesing is that there does not look like there is information about who Madison was? Is this named after James Madison?

  • Named in 1788 by the English Captain John Meares of the ship Felice for the Greek sailor who claimed to have gone on a voyage with Spanish Explorers in 1592 to seek the fabled Straits of Anian.
  • Extends east from the Pacific Ocean between Vancouver Island, Canada, and the Olympic Peninsula, Washington, to Haro Strait, San Juan Channel, Rosario Strait, and Puget Sound; its Pacific Ocean boundary is formed by a line between Cape Flattery - Tatoosh Island, Washington, and Carmanah Point (Vancouver Island), British Columbia; its north boundary follows the shoreline of Vancouver Island to Gonzales Point, then follows a continuous line east to Seabird Point (Discovery Island), British Columbia; Cattle Point (San Juan Island), Washington; Iceberg Point (Lopez Island); Point Colville (Lopez Island); and then to Rosario Head (Fidalgo Island); the eastern boundary is a continuous line extending south from Rosario Head along Whidbey Island to Point Partridge and south to Point Wilson (Quimper Peninsula); the Washington mainland forms the southern boundary of the strait.
