There was a man by the name of Jim Raines who made camp a couple of miles east of Hume, before it became Hume Lake. He was a wanted man.. George Hume came in and bught the Sequoia lumbering interesting in 1907. He set up a mill on Ten Mile Creek, founded the Hume Bennett Lumber Compnay. They built a dam on Long Meadow which became Hume Lake. The dam was the first multiple arch reinforced concrete dame in the world. It took 114 working days to complete the project.
