Places: CA-Lost Bear Meadow

Lost Bear Meadow-7,087' (Half Dome)
(37.6490971, -119.5987710)

Description:

According to GNIS: In Yosemite National Park, located on the middle course of Bridalveil Creek.

The meadow is named for a 1957 incident where a lost girl, Shirley Ann Miller, met a bear. After three days lost, she gave an account of her wanderings saying she was not lost, but she met a bear who was.  When the bear reached its hand and put it on her head, she swatted the bear with her spoon, sending it way.  This was recounted in a July 7, 1957 Los Angeles Hearld and Express article
