Place: CA-Corlieu Falls

Corlieu Falls (White Chief Mountain)
(37.4160520, -119.6245945)
Description:

Two ways to get here. First, the easy, quarter mile trail from the parking lot off of highway 41, near Oakhurst. Second is from the Cedar Valley Road trail head for the Lewis Creek trail. The falls themselves are about 80' tall and are talked about in Ann Marie Brown's book, California Waterfalls.

Corlieu Falls is named after Clifford Corlieu, a local personality. He did some ranching and mining over near Friant. But his daughter lived near Lewis Creek. Once he saw the area, he fell in love with it. He even set up a resort of sorts at the top of the falls—it is no more and there is no remains to be seen. Just a flat place.

Corlieu Falls.... has a Legend of lost gold and is rumored to be named after Clifford Corlieu (different spelling but same family as Corlew of Corlew Mountain and Corlew Meadows) built a home across from the waterfall after his daughter married and moved to the Sugar Pine area. Mr Corlieu is the one that constructed the hot tub around the top of the falls and piped in the warm spring water. There is suppose to be a small hot springs at the top of the falls too, I have not looked for it since it looks a bit dangerous to walk around up there. Try looking for a path safer to the top of the falls. From the Yosemite Connections web site.
