The Van Valkenburgh Home was built in 1903 in the Dutch Colonial Revival style. Its unusual roofline and juxtaposition of forms set this house apart from other residences in downtown Fresno.
Charles C Van Valkenburgh, Sr was known as the grand old man of masonary (like in the Free Masons). He came from New York. Graduated from University of Michigan with an MD. He came to Fresno through Hanford, moving to Fresno in 1901. Active in the Free Mason organization, having served for 67 years, longest California at the time.
