Hall of Records

Hall of Records (1937)
2281 Tulare St. , Fresno

Frankly, we have never been impressed with the outside of the building-that is until Roger Taylor showed us some things of significance with it.. During the first of these walks, Roger Taylor showed us the main entrance and talked about the symbolism of the image over the doorway. This includes farmers and mechanics, as well as  medallions of record keepers. But the inside shows the style of the era, where craftsmanship was valued. The sculptured marble and the tall hallways show the power of the government of the people. But to us, the outside tends to be more blockish, even though the style's name is PWA Deco Moderne.

Sometime this Spring or Summer, I will lead a short evening walk of the depression era buildings in downtown Fresno.
