Temple Beth Israel

Temple Beth Israel
 2336 Calaveras Street

Currently, the building is used for the School of Unlimited Learning. But this building shows that there is a pretty good influence of other religious groups besides Christian. Just in this area you have houses like the Einstein and Gundelfinger. Through out the city, you find names like Greenberg, Gottschalks, Levy, Slater and Ginsberg.

School of Unlimited Learning

Period Revival, Judaic ornamental influence

This building was for many years the center of Jewish community and religious life in Fresno. Despite functioning today as a community center, the building still maintains much of its original configuration. From City of Fresno

We should also note the building across the street. It was a Christian Scientist building for a long time.Over the years, it has been used for various churches. Most recently, it was Power House Institutional Church of God in Christ.

This massive Neoclassical structure remains in much the same condition as when it was originally built. It is a reminder of an era during which the Church of Christ Scientist was a much more prominent part of the local religious community. Today it is used by the Power House Institutional Church of God in Christ. On December 1, 2013, a fire started in the tree next to it and spread through the roof. A homeless man was picked up in connection with the fire.
