Description:
We were to leave yesterday, but a couple of things got in our way. First, we spent time in San Francisco recently, which impeded our ability to check out our camping equipment which we have not used in a couple of years. Also we had our house church over for a pot luck on Monday night. We also needed to clean house for our pot luck and could not just store things to make them ready to load the car.
We gave it a valiant effort to get ready on Tuesday. But by noon, we still had several more hours of packing to do. Even today, we still had some packing, so we did not leave until 10:30. Sherri drove to Bakersfield and got gas at Costco. We also decided to have an early dinner at Carl’s Jr. On our way to Bakersfield, Sherri had to drive in a pretty good rain.
I wanted to go and get some propane-sort of an insurance policy for the one we had. I originally thought it was was about 3 miles east, along the route to Lake Isabella. But that was not so. But driving through the rain to get to Big 5 gave me the opportunity to consider our route. I had thought about going over Sherman Pass, but because of the time factor, that was out of the question. Then going by way of Lake Isabella. But while I was in Carl’s Jr, I noticed that the rain seemed to be moving through there. On the other hand, going through Mojave appeared to be relatively clear.
After we got our propane, we headed through Tehachapi to Mojave. Once we left Bakersfield, we also left the rain. Then we past Red Rock State Park to Ridgecrest. By now, it was getting dark and the clouds were gathering again. So those two things put an end to camping tonight.
We headed to Lone Pine. Alone the way, it starts raining, pretty hard. Then the rain starts to splat on the windshield-a bit of snow, I think. But the road still seems pretty good, so we make good time. I get to Lone Pine and find the hotel Sherri has picked out-Best Western.
Because it is still raining, we just hunker down and relax in the room for the rest of the evening, eating a peanut butter sandwich before going to bed.

Trip Advisor Review:
Frontier Best Western in Lone Pine. Why is it when a night is stormy that a hotel can seem so good? We got into Lone Pine looking for a place to stay on our way to Death Valley. We found that the Best Western had a good price for a queen bed, clean room and friendly staff. On the later, the lady at the check in found us a good price. The bed was comfortable and there was not much noise, except for a passing semi on 395. The breakfast was eggs, bacon, sausage, bread/pastry (maybe from Alabama Cafe???) along with hot and cold cereal. They had a pancake machine, but it was not working. Would I stay here again? Yes.
