Description:

During our 2023 trip, the Castle was closed for visitors due to the first major renovation project in 50 years. But the grounds are open, which includes the Haupt Gardens

The original design was  James Renwick, Jr.  He also designed what became the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery.

The first secretary was  Joseph Henry  whose statue is in front of the building. The Enid A. Haupt Garden also is on the grounds. Close to the Haupt Garden is the Spencer Baird statue
