Description:

From the Fresno County Blue Book:
A man who holds an outstanding place in the medical profession of Fresno Count is Chester M Vaderburg, a native here, having been born at Selma on Oct 30m 1890, the son of Clymon M. and Luella Vanderburg. While his father was born in Iowa, his mother was born in Lake County, California.

Bringing his family to Fresno County over half a century ago, Clymon M Vanderburgh was a country school teacher in this part of the state for many years. He is now retired and living on a ranch in Madera county. In connection with the family history, it is also interesting to note that J.J. Vanderburgh, uncle of the doctor, was prominently known in newspaper circles of Fresno County byu reason of the fact that he was owner and publisher for a number of years of the Selma Irrigator.

Dr Vanderburgh attended school in Selma and also in Fresno. He graduated from high school in Madera, having spent one year at Santa Rose High School. He entered Stanford University with the class of 1914, and completed his academic course there as well as his medical training and holds the degrees of A.B. and M.D. It is noteworthy that Dr. Vanderburgh paid his own way all through his college and medical course and in this regard it should be added that not only his brother but also his sister worked their way through college, both being graduates of the University of California.

Dr. Vanderburgh was connected with the Fresno County Hospital for three years as an interne and resident. he began in partnership with Dr. W.L. Adams; they continued together for two years. For the past fourteen years Dr. Vanderburgh has practiced independently with offices in the Physicians Building on the corner of Fresno and P streets. He gives particular attention to surgery and obstetrics, and he is chief of surgical staff of the Fresno County Hospial. He is a member of the American, California and Fresno County Medical Associations. For eleven years he was assistant emergency surgeon for the City of Fresno.

Dr. Vanderburgh married Miss Florence S. Herrick, who was a classmate at Stanford. Mrs. Vanderburgh is one of Fresno's most popular social leaders and takes a prominent part in club life and local affairs generally.

Dr. and Mrs. Vanderburgh had one son, Stanely, who met an untimely death in a motorcycle accident at Palo Alto in April 1941. This promising and popular young man was a student at Stanford University, pursuing a pre-medical course, having had the intention to complete his medical education at Stanford. The news of his accident came as a great shock to the community and numerous expressions of sympathy were received by his bereaved parents..
