It was a long day of travel
today. Not a whole bunch of excitement. We got up at 4:00am in
Mountain View. David took us to the San Jose Airport where we got on
a 6:20 Alaska Airlines flight to Los Angeles. After waiting in the
terminal there for about 40 minutes, we got on an 8:55 plane from LAX
to Boston. While taking off about 25 minutes late, we got in at
5:00pm, 30 minutes early. Pilot said there was a good tailwind on the
jet stream. Coming out of Los Angeles, we did have some turbulence. A
bit of excitement there, but the pilot did not let anything happen.
Coming over I read and Sherri watched a movie.
While in Boston-we plan to
stay until October 24th, we intend to take mass transit most of the
time. When we see my cousin in Connecticut we will rent a car. Then
the next day, we will drive out to Cape Cod and see what that is all
about.
But today was the first day of
testing if our mass transit skills would work. We were successful. It
seemed like we asked a lot of transit workers question. The answers
were enough to get us to our AirBnB in Malden. To get there, we took
the free airport shuttle over to the Airport Station. There we bought
a seven day transit ticket. This let us hop onto the Blue Line
subway which we took to the State Station. Here we changed over to
the Orange Line which took us to Malden. We got off at the Wellington
Station and got onto bus 100. The bus dropped us off at the corner of
Watts and Fellsway. This is two houses from the place we are
staying-pretty convenient.
The only real hardship we had
was getting into the AirBnB. The instructions was good. Just I was
following them wrong. There is a keybox on the door. We put in the
proper code, but the lock was not doing anything for us. A lady
across the street came over and helped us-turns out she is the
caretaker for the place. instead of yanking, we should open the box.
Once that happen, we were in.
The building is older, maybe
the 1930’s would be my guess. We have the entire third floor-two
bedrooms, one bath, a kitchen and a study area. Comfortable.
After we got settled in, we
went over to an Italian place and had a monster calzone. Good
tasting, just a bit burnt. Then across the street to Target and
bought some groceries. By this time, alight rain had started to fall
and we scurried on back to our residence. This time, we got into the
building without any fuss.
