Description:
According to the book California Trails High Sierra Region by Peter Massey, Jeanne Wilson, Angela Titus, Patterson Bluffs and Mountain was named after John A Patterson, a native of Georgia who had a large ranch in the area. He moved to the area in 1852 to mine gold, made come money and bought cattle. He stayed around the Kings River for abut 14 years. Later on, he was a major player in building the Fresno County courthouse.
According to Wikipedia, there was also a John A Patterson who house John Sontag, a fugitive of Southern Pacific Railroad. This ranch was 10 miles NE of Visalia. It was here that the Battle of Stone Corral was fought.
