Description:

Arlington Cemetery is a place which should evoke reverence. Row upon row of graves of those whom the nation wants to remember. I do not think in terms of attractions at Arlington, but more in places of remembrance. These include:

• Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Here, the changing of the guard can be an extremely moving time. See if you can find out if there will be any special ceremony's here.
• March 25th has been established as the Medal of Honor day.
   
• John F Kennedy Eternal Flame. Look to the side and you will find a lone grave. This is Robert F Kennedy's grave. To me, this was especially pungent in memory.
  
• Arlington House. This was Robert E Lee's house until the Civil War took it. His wife was a relative of George Washington
• Women's Veteran Memorial. A large building dedicated to the women who have gought and died for this country.
• William Taft Memorial
  

This is really in Virginia, but I am counting it as part of our DC trip.

Trips:

• March 25, 2023-We spent most of the day here. It was moving to witness the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Right afterwards was a wreath laying ceremony which was an unexpected surprise. But in talking to one of the Honor Guard soldiers, he was saying that there was an annual ceremony to honor the  Medal of Honor. We stayed for that as well. In addition, we saw the Maine Memorial and memorials for the Columbia and Challenger Space Shuttles as well as a memorial to those who died trying to rescue the Iran hostages. We also visited the Kennedy memorial and the Women in the Military Monument.
